One Year Ago today...

Anniversaries are events that happen yearly, reflecting days that are celebrated. Birthdays and weddings are the most common type of anniversaries. But, in my life, today is my most life-changing anniversary--the day I became One in 1 Million!
Last year, at this time, I was sitting in class still trying to figure out what my school year was going to look like. I remember like it was a few months ago being so excited for the end of the day to come because it was our first home soccer game! It was my brother's senior year, I was going to be a soccer manager, and we all could not wait to get the season started.
As tradition on game-day, we raced out of school to head to get money from our parents to eat Subway. Micah was driving, I jumped in the front seat, and Noah jumped in the back. Micah normally won't even move the car without everyone putting on a seatbelt, so it's a pretty good habit of ours. However, this day was different. Excitement was all over us, the music was turned up, and we were ready for the game!
As we were making the 2.5 mile drive to my parents office, I remember Noah saying, "There's a cop!" He said this because we did not have our seatbelts on. Noah put his on real quick, and I grabbed mine, pulled it over my chest, and then I let it go! No snap, no click. Just a quick cover-up to make sure it looked like I had it on. Less than a mile later--it happened. A truck pulled out in front of us with no time to react. My left arm grabbed the dash to try and brace myself, and the next thing you know, I blacked out from the exploding airbag hitting my face. (you can read more details in my first couple blogs)
Looking back, I know I shouldn't be alive today. I should have died in an instant. I should have been in the place of my eternity one year ago today. That's why I celebrate today! I celebrate life. I celebrate my Jesus, and His plan for me. I celebrate vision--that even though the doctors told me that I would never see again, I believe in a miraculous God that reminds me daily that I am One in 1 Million!
The saying, "Seatbelts save lives" may be true. But, I know even more than that, God saves lives! No matter what decisions you have made--stupid or careless--God cares for you. His plan for you is so important. His desire for you is to trust Him with all of your heart. It's so easy to forget the little ways He reminds us of His love and His plan. Don't be careless. Don't forget the little things. You may be in your defining moment right now. Be brave and take the step like I did ONE YEAR AGO TODAY! I didn't allow the circumstance in my life to knock me down. But I realized the beauty of life and made the choice to surrender my life to Him.
Thank you for all those who prayed for me and continue to do so. Today, we are celebrating life and we are celebrating the miracle of vision. Wear your One in 1 Million shirts today and snap a photo. Post it on social media and use the hashtags #onein1million and #intheeyesofgrace
